New Eviction Laws and Regulations

Stay up to date on New Jersey's eviction laws and regulations

Effective September 1, 2023

There are some new rules as it relates to filing for eviction as of September 1, 2023.

The new statute says the courts will be scheduling cases no less than 5 weeks from the filing date. And according to our attorney some courts may be more like 6 to 7 weeks. This means tenants have more time to catch up or get further behind.

Also the statute states that if the tenant can show proof they are trying to gain assistance, the judge could give them another 60 days.

Read the Notice to the Bar, which explains the statute.
